Aquid Wasim Ahmed, a talented young chess player born on the 29th of April 1997 in Guwahati, Assam, left behind a legacy that continues to inspire chess players around the world. His father, Sajid Ahmed, organizes this tournament every year on Aquid's birthday to honor his memory and love for the game.
Aquid's journey in the world of chess began in Class 3 when he joined the PC Baruah Chess Academy. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous National and International FIDE Rating Chess Tournaments, showcasing his dedication and skill. His passion for chess was evident as he achieved the title of U-13 District Champion in Guwahati.

The 2nd Aquid Wasim Ahmed Memorial Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024 promises exciting cash prizes and trophies for the winners. The top 15 participants will receive cash prizes ranging from Rs. 600 to Rs. 10,000, with additional awards for the Best Woman (19+ age), Best Girl (Below 19 age), and Best Veteran (50+ age) players. Trophies will also be awarded to the winners in various age categories, including U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, and U-15.
