The city of Guwahati is all set to become the beating heart of Indian chess this July as it gears up for the much-anticipated 2nd Guwahati Smart City International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2025. Organized by the All Assam Chess Association (AACA) and supported by the State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare, Assam, the tournament promises a thrilling spectacle of strategy, intellect, and sportsmanship.

This prestigious event, now in its second edition, is part of a growing effort to place Assam on the global chess map. With participation expected from across India and beyond, including foreign players, the tournament serves as a celebration of global chess culture right in the heart of Northeast India.

💰 Attractive Prize Structure

The tournament boasts a whopping ₹5.10 lakh prize pool, with the first prize set at ₹70,000. Apart from the main prizes, several special categories will be awarded, including:

  • Best Female Player

  • Best Veteran (50+)

  • Best Unrated Player

  • Best Assam Player

  • Age Categories (U-8 to U-16)

  • Rating Categories (1400–1550, 1551–1700, 1701–1850)

This inclusive structure ensures every participant has something to aim for, irrespective of rating or age.

⏱️ Format & Rules

  • 10-round Swiss League

  • Time Control: 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move from move one

  • Default Time: 15 minutes

  • Tie-breaks: Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, Direct Encounter, Greater Number of Wins

The event will follow all AICF and FIDE rules, and will be overseen by top-level arbiters and officials to ensure fair play and smooth conduct.
